Flower power: Abby Lynne
A mother and an artist, Abby creates pieces that absolutely blossom from her paintbrush.
Hello, who are you?
I’m an Abby, mum, artist, life partner, sassy person, into messes, and into books.
Tell us about your live painting. What sort of events do you do and how does it differ to your other paintings?
My live painting is done at weddings typically, but cocktail parties, banquets and birthdays have also been requested. Usually I paint in my studio at my own pace, but painting live is done in front of an audience from start to finish as entertainment!
Tell us about painting. What do you enjoy most about it?
I love the fluidity of painting, especially with acrylics. I can change the whole painting at any given moment, the paint is opaque so it’s easy to just paint over anything I don’t like! Man, if only life were that simple.
You don’t just paint on canvas, you also create stunning pieces on glass. Can you tell us a bit about this?
I’ve been painting in glass for a year now, I love the ethereal fragile quality glass paintings have. Glass is also not very porous, so the paint just stays exactly where I put it-it makes for very bold brush strokes!
What do your days look like at the moment?
My days at the moment, crazy. My husband owns 4 franchises, I run this business, we have two kids-I’m certain your mind can make up that story haha. It’s A LOT! Typically I’m working with my kids in the studio, or jamming all of my work into the one day my partner has off.
Do you have a favourite piece that you’ve created?
I used to have a favourite piece, but currently I do not. Whenever I grow mentally I find myself pulled away from the pieces I used to resonate with. Hopefully that means I have some new work inside of me waiting to come out and be my new favourite!
Describe your workspace for us. Where does all the creativity happen?
I am a MESSY person. My workspace is a beautiful chaotic mess. I have 3 desks, two easels, a small bed, and some art carts...all of which get rearranged regularly depending on what I am working on. Currently I have 4 large commissions I’m working on so I have two canvases on the floor propped against walls, and two nailed to my walls that I am alternating painting. The decor in that room is very “mrs. Weasley chic” which I find compliments how I love to just let aprons and paint tubes stay wherever they land when I am done with them.
