Crafting art with paper
I think everyone did origami at school. If it wasn’t origami, it was making paper chains, or cutting shapes out of paper to turn into animals – I remember making a koi fish!
Some artists choose to work with yarn or paints, while others carve wood or make fun and functional pieces from clay. Others craft intricate, beautiful art pieces from paper.
Let’s take a look…
Diana Beltrán Herrera
Diana’s work is truly impressive, and it’s little wonder she’s worked with some impressive clients – from Disney and Instagram, to Vogue and Clarins – to craft bespoke sculptures and designs for both editorial and commercial projects. Based in Bristol, UK, Diana’s practice centres around illustration, sculpture, design and photography, with recurring themes including nature and food.
Esther Thorpe
I first came across Esther’s work at origami EST via our friends at Holly Booth Studio. A designer and creator of contemporary paper folds, Esther enjoys “celebrating the traditional Japanese art of paper folding while adding a contemporary edge”. From paper clocks, flowers and lampshades, to garlands and jewellery pieces, it seems Esther can turn paper into almost anything!

Suzi McLaughlin
Flowers, flowers, flowers… and they will all last forever! Suzi handcrafts beautiful paper flowers. Pop them in a vase, use them to make a wreath, give them as gifts or even use them to decorate a gift box. Suzi’s paper flower making kits mean you can grow your own (paper) flowers at home, too.
